Hello, I'm Matias!!
Hello! I'm Matías. I'm a first-generation Ecuadorian college student passionate
about mathematics and machine learning. I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in
Computer Science
with a Minor in Pure and Applied Mathematics at Stevens Institute of
Technology.
I am an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the
Advanced Quantum Materials Lab, working on deep learning–based
Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) image mapping. I analyze and map structural defects
in monolayer and few-layer MoS₂, using high-resolution STEM imaging to study atomic-scale features
such as point defects, grain boundaries, dislocations, and edge terminations.
In addition to technical research, I also mentored and led incoming
freshmen as a Tutor-Counselor and RA in the
STEP Bridge Summer Program, supporting,
tutoring Calculus/Physics, and mentoring 53 incoming first-year students in their transition to college life and
academics. I also
serve as Secretary of Stevens ColorStack, supporting and
representing underrepresented students
in tech and leading Data Structures Wednedays nights with the current Colorstack Tech Leader.
